Happy New Year!

Well, December has been so busy that I have not had a chance to make any posts. I had initally planed to put up a picture from every photoshoot we did...but we wound up doing approx. 10-12 shoots a day...on 5 seperate occasions since my last post. Therefore...that would take much too long. :)

Anyway, we are now taking names for the JBH prom for all those interested.

I will be updating once again now as the holiday season is passing us by. Keep checking back!

I will leave you with a new picture in the spirit of New Years..normally I take this kind of a shot with a tripod and with a long shutter speed to produce a neat flowery look to the fireworks. However, I couldn't find my tripod mount so I planked the camera down on my monopod and tried to calm my breathing down so I didn't shake. The picture below is the result.

Christmas Time is Coming!

We have been doing some Christmas pictures lately, and have quite a few more to do in the upcoming month. I know some people were wondering if we could have "Christmas backdrops" or why we didn't have any already and what not. Well, to tell you the truth....I'm "anti" those kind of things. I take pride in the fact that I am a very contemporary photographer, and as such I try to be as modern as possible. I always say that being a photographer is the same as being a hairdresser. If you are still cutting hair in the same way as people did in the 80s, then you won't have much success in the present. Well the same thing is true for photography....if you still take pictures like people did in the 80s (and even most of the 90s) then you really won't(shouldn't) have much success. We decided to go with neutral colour backdrops and accent them with colourful (but tasteful) Christmas props. This gave our customers the option of setting their own stage so to speak, and enabled us to have very natural shots that aren't cliche or outdated.

Below are a few samples of some Christmas styles we offer.

New Lens!

My new lens finally arrived. It is a Canon EF 70-200 2.8 L USM.....basically that means it is great....one of the best in the world actually. The thing retails for $1500, but I landed a great deal and got it for much less.

Here is a quick snapshot showing the difference between the two lens. The black lens is my old telephoto lens..the white one is my new one!

Green and Black

Here is one of my favourites from a full day of portrait sessions. She came in to get school pictures done but I think she left as a potential model for our company for future contracts.

The Dorey Family

Ahh the Boston Bruins.....how I loathe thee. The child in this family is a big Bruins fan and he thought it would be funny to show up to a Habs fan's (moi) studio session. Well, despite having to look at that Bruins jersey, the photo shoot went really well and I think the shots with the jersey in it were some of the best of the bunch. If he comes back with a Habs jersey on maybe I'll give them the deal for half off ;)

The Crews Family

Another laid back and fun family. These guys were really relaxed and were eager to go have casual shots taken. Their dog was very excited to get her picture taken, and did a great job of looking at the camera when she needed to. Thanks for having us for your first family portrait guys!

Rogers Family

A very nice family full of fun! The kids were very easy to get to pose and the rest is history!

The start of the studio sessions!

Well on November 4th we began our studio sessions for the remainder of the year. We will be doing studio pictures on December 2nd as well as December 9th to close out the year. Our first session in 2008 will probably be late January/early February.

Our first family to get their "snaps took" was the Forsey family. They were great to work with and their dog was very cute and obedient (even though it urinated on our backdrop. But in all honesty, being placed in the middle of a large white backdrop with two big umbrellas over her and a stranger up in her face with a camera...I would have probably peed as well!). We thought these guys were a great start to our series of studio shots, and we would love to work with them in the future!

Last of this theme

Well, in keeping with the first two posts, I have decided to add a few more pictures that are the same theme as those already posted. I have had these pictures on my USB card reader for some time...so I decided to clear them off...and voila!

This picture was taken by Bay Bulls Big Pond near the Goulds. I was out there in the bog getting pictures for a Biogeography assignment I was doing. It is a good thing I left it so late since I was able to capture this awesome sunset.

Another assignment left late. I was down at Atlantic Place getting pictures for an Urban Geography paper when on the way back spotted this sunset over water street. I thought it was neat since 99.2134785 % of sunset pictures are over "Natural" landscapes, rather than Urban landscapes.

Finally there is this picture of Swift Current. I came across it by accident when I was storing my pictures away into different folders. I took this in October of 2003, and somehow "lost" it.

Cheers

My Favourites (for now)

Well here I am sitting around at the computer lab at MUN. I have class from 3:30-4:45...so I figured Ill add to my new blog.

The theme for this entry is two of my favourite pictures. Both of these pictures are titled "Autumn Path", and have been some of the most popular of all of my pictures. I took them at Bowring Park in November while doing portraits for my girlfriends sister.

The "Orange" one is perhaps more popular than the "Green" one, but I think both go together well.

Enjoy!

New Blog

Well here it is. A new section of my website, and something that may interest some of you. I will be updating this blog every few days (or whenever I have a picture I want to talk about), and I hope this will fit well with the site.

So anyway, here is a picture I took while at home in Grand Bank over Christmas. This is the last shot I took in 2005. It is an awesome sunset over Grand Bank harbour.

Anyway, expect some new updates to the website soon since I am back in St. John's.

Cheers
